Our Story
Sun Harvest began in 2002 when Allison and Greg Shannon returned to Shannons Corners in Glenburnie and built their first greenhouse. What started as a small operation growing hydroponic tomatoes for local grocery stores quickly evolved into something much more.
Driven by a passion for growing exceptional-quality produce, the Shannon family alongside their talented team expanded their growing operation to include a wider variety of greenhouse crops and seasonal field-grown produce. The addition of a four season garden centre brought together beautiful flowers and plants and the fresh produce that customers had come to love.
Today, Sun Harvest proudly serves the community in an expansive retail space with locally grown produce, annuals, perennials and more. We remain a family-owned and operated business, now welcoming the second generation, with sons Brodie and Kieran helping lead the future of the farm.
Growing Into the Future
As we have grown, we have continued to invest in expanding our greenhouse space and adopting modern growing technologies to improve efficiency, sustainability, and product quality. Our greenhouse production now includes a wide variety of hydroponic fruits and vegetables, as well as many species of annuals, perennials and edible transplants available in our garden centre.
One thing that has remained the same over these years is a passion for growing high-quality products and creating a welcoming space where our community can gather, shop, and connect.

Grown Responsibly, Right Here
At Sun Harvest, sustainability is built into the way we grow, care for our plants, and serve our community every day. Greenhouse growing allows us to provide fresh, locally grown produce and beautiful plants in our south eastern Ontario climate while extending the growing season and making efficient use of valuable resources.
We believe sustainable growing is an ongoing journey. As technology evolves and new practices emerge, we continue to learn, adapt, and improve how we grow. By combining modern greenhouse techniques with natural processes, we strive to reduce our environmental impact while supporting a healthy, resilient food system in our region.

Efficient Greenhouse Growing
Greenhouse agriculture is one of the most resource-efficient ways to grow plants and produce. By carefully managing temperature, humidity, light, and nutrients, we create ideal growing conditions that help maximize production while minimizing waste.
Our produce is grown using hydroponic systems, which use significantly less water and land compared to traditional outdoor growing methods. Water is captured, recirculated, and reused within our systems, allowing us to grow clean, consistent, high-quality crops close to home.

Natural Pest Management
Rather than relying on chemical pest control, we use biological growing practices that take advantage of natural processes - referred to as integrated pest management.
Beneficial insects are introduced into our greenhouses to help manage harmful pest populations, which supports healthier plants while protecting the well-being of our customers, staff, and quality of our products.

Responsible Resource Use
Rainwater collected from our greenhouse roofs is our primary water source for growing. Captured and stored for later use, this resource helps provide our plants with a reliable water supply while reducing our reliance on external sources.
Our retractable greenhouse screens provide an additional layer of insulation during colder months, helping reduce heating demands by up to 50%. We also use packaging and plant pots made with post-consumer recycled (PCR) materials.

Gardening for a Healthier Environment
Gardens play an important role in supporting pollinators, biodiversity, and healthy ecosystems. By choosing plants that are well suited to our local climate, gardeners can create more resilient landscapes that support bees, butterflies, beneficial insects, and wildlife.
At Sun Harvest, we grow and offer plant varieties that are adapted to Eastern Ontario's growing conditions. Choosing the right plant for the right place is one of the simplest and most effective ways to create a successful, sustainable garden.
